I’ve been playing guitar since I was thirteen. I was itching to learn how to do the blues turnaround in Stevie Ray Vaughan’s Pride and Joy. Dad showed me and it took me all night to figure out and I didn’t look back. He let me have a guitar but no amp. He told me to practice until he could hear me across the house before he’d consider letting me plug into his amp.
I grew up down a remote dirt road in the middle of the Mark Twain National Forest in southwest Missouri. So, during the long summer days, there wasn’t much a teenager could do all day but practice guitar. I played my Stevie Ray Vaughan’s Texas Flood album over and over to master all the songs.
And that’s how I work up songs today (minus the record player). I’ve been a member of several bands over the years, have played with some amazing musicians, met some great folks from all walks of life, and have visited some fun places.
