We can not just go to Glacier National Park and not activate it.
We stayed one night at Bowman Lake which is a very touristy place that is off the beaten path. This place did not have any cellular service or Starlink internet service. I did end up using the GPS dongle to synchronize my FT8 clock on the computer.
The antenna of choice is the 26 gauge 44 foot long wire on the 27 foot fiberglass mast. Xiegu G90 as the transceiver of choice.
Spot number 22 was flat enough for us. We had a snack/supper. I setup HF radio and activated the park with 18 contacts on 3 different bands with FT8. Gayla did some crocheting on a project. Tried Starlink to no avail. Too many trees this time.
Bowman Lake in Glacier National Park is a beautiful place if you are in the area.
After one night at Bowman Lake we drove up to Kintla Lake which is about 14-15 miles farther north of Bowman Lake. It is so close to the Canada border that you can see the mountains that are in Canada.
We ended up spending the work week up here and a beautiful work spot it is!
I did some HF radio outside. Had a lot of people stop by and ask what kind of research I was doing and what is that apparatus over there. It’s just an 18 awg 32 foot long speaker that is used for transmitting and receiving signals from the sky. At least that’s what I tell them!!!
Had 49 total contacts on 07-29-24
Had 17 total contacts on 07-30-24
I was able to activate US-0028 a total of 3 times while in the are. I am so glad I did it too.
Lot of people stopped and asked about Clifford too.
